TerraCatch Privacy Policy
TerraCatch is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how the TerraCatch mobile application (“the App”) collects, uses, and discloses information. By using the App you agree to the practices described below.
Information We Collect
- Camera Content: When you capture wildlife using the App, we access the device camera to record short videos and generate thumbnails. Media is stored locally on your device. If you sync a capture to TerraCatch services, the primary image and associated metadata are uploaded to our servers to power community features.
- Location Data: With your permission we collect coarse location data to tag captures and improve species suggestions. Location coordinates may be transmitted securely to TerraCatch services when you request species identification or sync a capture, and are stored in your capture history.
- Authentication Data: If you sign in with Google, we receive the basic profile information (name, email address, profile photo, Google user ID) provided by Google to create and authenticate your TerraCatch profile.
- Gameplay Telemetry: We send lightweight gameplay metrics (quest completions, rarity distribution, feature usage, streaks) to TerraCatch services to tailor in-app quests, balance game systems, and troubleshoot issues. Telemetry is tied to your TerraCatch user ID and later aggregated.
How We Use Information
- Provide core features such as capture recording, species identification, quests, collection tracking, and the community feed (some features require uploading media and metadata to TerraCatch services).
- Synchronise your profile across devices when you sign in with Google.
- Improve identification accuracy, tune quest difficulty, and maintain game balance using aggregated telemetry.
- Diagnose crashes, bugs, and performance issues.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data with trusted service providers that help us operate the App (e.g., Firebase for authentication, Remote Config, and storage). These providers process the data only on our behalf and in accordance with this policy. Media or metadata you choose to sync is shared with TerraCatch community services so it can appear in social features and feeds.
Your Choices
- You can revoke camera, microphone, or location permissions at any time in Android system settings; some features will stop working until permissions are restored.
- You can sign out of the App to stop sending new gameplay telemetry.
- To request deletion of your TerraCatch account and associated cloud data, follow the process described at our Account & Data Deletion page.
Data Retention & Deletion
Cloud-stored profile data, synced captures, and gameplay telemetry are retained while your TerraCatch account remains active. When we complete a verified deletion request, that data is permanently removed within 30 days. We may keep aggregated analytics that no longer identify you and limited records showing that a deletion request was fulfilled.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect collected information. Despite these measures, no system can be guaranteed 100% secure.
Children's Privacy
TerraCatch is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such data, please contact us so we can delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted in the App and the “Last updated” date above will be revised.
